Frequently Asked Questions

The Boone & Crockett (B&C) scoring system adds: inside spread + both main beams + all tine lengths + all circumference measurements. For typical racks, deductions are taken for each side's measurements that don't match. Net score = gross score minus deductions.

Whitetail typical minimum is 170" net. Whitetail non-typical is 195". Mule deer typical is 190". Elk typical is 360". Pope & Young minimums (bowhunting) are lower: 125" for whitetail typical.

Gross score is the total of all measurements added together. Net score subtracts the deductions (differences between matching measurements on right and left sides). A perfectly symmetrical rack will have the same gross and net score.

There are four circumference measurements (H1–H4) per side. H1 is measured at the smallest circumference between the burr and G1. H2 is between G1 and G2, H3 between G2 and G3, and H4 between G3 and G4 (or halfway to the tip if there is no G4).
